According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, pipelines are the safest method of transporting the refined petroleum products you put in your car or truck, use to heat your home or that commercial jets needs to keep their industry aloft. call before you dig

To help prevent such accidents from occurring, you should call "8-1-1" before you dig. This is national number that connects you with a One-Call Center which will notify the pipeline or other utility which may be buried in the area. The utility will send a representative to your digging site to mark the exact location of the buried pipeline or other utility.

Excavators and homeowners should call "8-1-1" before starting any digging project for fences, flagpoles, landscaping, storage buildings, foundations, swimming pools, ground clearing, deep plowing, laying underground pipe or wiring. By taking the time to call, you can prevent disruption of service, accidents, injuries and possibly death. 

The One-Call system should be contacted at least 48 hours in advance before digging. In most states, this is the law. In all cases, it’s the safe thing to do.
