Colonial Pipeline & Reworx Recycling Team Up To Help Environment, Community

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Recent office renovations at Colonial Pipeline Co., and a need to dispose of old computers responsibly, developed a neat partnership with Reworx Recycling that benefits both the environment and local community.

Colonial Pipeline came up with a disposal solution by partnering with non-profit Reworx Recycling. Reworx recycles electronic equipment either by refurbishing and reselling or by shredding and re-purposing the raw materials. They champion secure and environmentally responsible recycling. They also staff local workers, offering meaningful work for candidates that may have few other options.

Our first goal is to dispose of equipment with a guarantee of data security, said Bruce Senevey, I.T. supervisor and engineering support. We require company data to be wiped to Department of Defense specifications. We require that equipment be disposed of in a legal, environmentally friendly manner and that we are relieved of ownership liability when the equipment leaves our facility. Reworx met these requirements and by using them we contribute to the Atlanta area job community.”

After collecting disposable electronic equipment from Colonial, the equipment will be inventoried and sorted. Any equipment that is salvageable is cleaned, data wiped, repaired and will be offered for resale. Any equipment that cannot be repaired is mandated for destruction and is shredded onsite at Reworx’s Kennesaw facility. Shredded materials are transported offsite to facilities that re-purpose the raw materials in an environmentally friendly manner.

Proceeds from the sale of reusable equipment are split between Reworx and Colonial. This helps Colonial defray costs and helps fund further operations and staffing at Reworx. It’s a great partnership that demonstrates Colonial’s commitment to the environment and community.
