ALPHARETTA, GA. (Sept. 29, 2017) — Joseph A. Blount Jr., a veteran leader in the energy industry with 35 years of experience in oil, gas and midstream assets including pipelines and a former Board member of Colonial Pipeline Company (Colonial), has been named President and CEO of Colonial, the company announced today.

Blount becomes the 10th president in Colonial’s 55-year history and will lead the company’s mission of safe, reliable operations over a rigorously maintained pipeline that has positioned the organization for growth and greater service to its customers.

He succeeds John Somerhalder II, who served as interim President and CEO for Colonial upon the retirement of Tim Felt earlier this year.

Blount most recently served as CEO of Century Midstream LLC, a Houston-based company he co-founded in 2013 to engage in the development, acquisition, and operations of midstream assets.

He spent 10 years with Unocal Corporation ultimately serving in the role of President and Chief Operating Officer of Unocal Midstream and Trade where he oversaw the worldwide marketing of Unocal’s natural gas, crude oil, and condensate resources, the development of and management of its pipeline, terminal and storage businesses and oversaw its commodity risk management activities.

During his tenure at Unocal, he also served as a member of Colonial’s Board of Directors representing Unocal’s ownership position.

In addition, Blount has also served in senior officer positions with NiSource Corporation and Genesis Energy, as well as executive positions with Koch Industries and Transco Energy.

Joe has brought success with him everywhere he has served,” said Kevin Nichols, Chairman of Colonial’s Board of Directors. We’re excited to have a person of Joe Blount’s caliber to help Colonial safely fulfill its responsibilities to its customers and to the public, and to pursue the company’s potential for growth.”

Throughout his career, Blount has been active in energy industry leadership, serving as Chairman of the Natural Gas Supply Association and the Natural Gas Council. Active in his community, he has focused on non-profit organizations whose missions serve children and adults with challenging medical issues and disabilities through volunteer and board work, with both Camp For All and The Center Houston.

Colonial, founded in 1962, delivers refined petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, home heating oil and fuels for the U.S. military.
