COBB SAFETY VILLAGE MAKES PIPELINE SAFETY COME ALIVE

MARIETTA, Ga. - The weather was overcast and rainy, which kept everyone indoors for the Family Fun Day scheduled at the Cobb County Safety Village on June 22. Even though no one could visit the outside displays, it didn’t stop the busloads of children from summer camp and daycare programs from flooding the indoor safety exhibits.

Terri Arnold, Eric Cornett, Wayne Barrere, and Bruce Konvicka took turns handing out pint-sized hard hats and giveaways, while teaching about pipelines and “811: Call Before You Dig”. Before the day had ended, the team of employees from Atlanta Junction had met with almost 250 children. Their smiles tell the story of a great day learning about pipeline safety.

The Cobb County Safety Village, located at 1220 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta, GA, provides a comprehensive, interactive safety training environment for school age children. A three-quarter scale reproduction of Marietta businesses and residential areas provides the perfect setting for children to learn about safety – from fire and “stranger danger” to traffic and bicycle safety. In 2012, Colonial officially became part of the Village when the company constructed a small tank, representing our Powder Springs Tank Farm, to house a number of educational pipeline games and displays.

The Family Fun Day is only one of the many events the staff from Atlanta Junction have supported over the years. Their ongoing efforts help to make pipeline safety come alive for local Georgia children.
