Hurricane Florence Response Update #1 — Sept. 12, 2018

Colonial Pipeline continues to safely operate its system at full and normal rates as it, along with a large section of the Atlantic Coast, prepares for Hurricane Florence.

The priorities are:

  1. The safety of people, including the public, contractors and employees;
  2. Protection of the environment;
  3. Protecting Colonial’s assets so impact will be minimal and recovery to normal operations quick;
  4. Open, honest and timely communication with the news media and the public of Colonial’s efforts and experiences with Hurricane Florence.

Among the activities accomplished or under way:

  • Maintaining adequate product levels in storage tanks to prevent them from floating should flooding occur.
  • Frequent communications with customers across the Carolinas and Virginia are ensuring Colonial and the terminals it serves are aware of each other’s plans, including potential evacuations.
  • Large, portable generators are on standby to be delivered to the storm zone in the event power is lost. These generators are capable of restoring limited service until commercial power is restored.
  • Staffing plans are set to help ensure operations are safe if continued and are quickly restored if lines must shut down due to weather.
  • Colonial is coordinating its efforts with PHMSA, the U.S. Department of Energy and NC, VA, SC emergency officials.
