Personnel
The employees of Colonial Pipeline must have a strong sense of accountability
and responsibility. Work processes are more effective when
roles and duties are clearly defined. Clear responsibility allows everyone
to prioritize their resources and schedules. Each individual is
accountable for his or her defined area of responsibility and personal
actions. Operating and maintenance procedures
are designed as aids to the
well-trained operator. They do not replace knowledge, but rather support
the user. “Thinking” procedure compliance is required. Essentially,
the user must understand the steps in a procedure before performing
the work. Additionally, alert,
well-trained operators and maintenance personnel are
key to safe, efficient operation of Colonial’s pipeline system.
The company believes a strong training
program is essential to its success. Just
as classroom and on-the-job training is important to success, so is self-assessment. Self-assessment requires each
employee to honestly evaluate the
strengths, areas for improvement and weaknesses of his or
her
own performance, as well as team performance.
