NORM J. SZYDLOWSKI NAMED NEXT PRESIDENT & CEO OF COLONIAL PIPELINE

December 14, 2005

Succeeds David L. Lemmon, Who Will Retire After Eight Years

Norm J. Szydlowski has been named the next president and chief executive officer of Colonial Pipeline by the company’s board of directors. The appointment is effective Jan. 9, 2006.

Szydlowski, a veteran manager from the Chevron Corporation, joins Colonial after serving as a senior consultant to the Iraqi Oil Ministry in Baghdad. The team he led in rebuilding the Iraqi oil sector achieved record performance in post-war production despite difficult and hazardous conditions.

He will succeed David L. Lemmon, who is completing eight years as the sixth chief executive in Colonial’s 43-year history. Lemmon’s tenure was marked by noteworthy improvements in the pipeline’s safety and environmental record, which earned Colonial the API Distinguished Environmental and Safety Award four times. This was accomplished along with record throughput and financial performance.

Lemmon will remain at Colonial during a transition period. He also will continue to serve on the Board of Directors of Pacific Energy Group and as a member of the Battelle Energy Advisory Committee.

“We announce this change with deep appreciation and esteem for the accomplishments Colonial has achieved under Dave Lemmon’s leadership,” said Board Chairman Mike Brenk. “With Norm Szydlowski as president and CEO, we look forward to continued safe operations and to Colonial reaching new heights of performance.”

Prior to serving in Iraq, Szydlowski was Vice President of Refining for Chevron where he led operations on one of the world’s largest refining systems with approximately 2.25 million barrels per day (BPD) of crude capacity from refineries on five continents.

Szydlowski brings 35 years of experience to Colonial. He began his Chevron tenure in 1981 in Marketing Operations. He rose through positions of increasing responsibility in sales, planning, supply chain management, refining and plant operations, transportation and construction engineering.

He was named Chevron’s General Manager of Health, Environmental and Safety in 1995 where he led policy, compliance and emergency response world-wide. In 1997, Szydlowski was named General Manager of Operations for Chevron’s 10,000-mile pipeline system in North America.

In 1999, he was appointed General Manager of the Pascagoula Refinery in Mississippi, Chevron’s largest and most complex wholly-owned refinery. He was promoted to Chevron’s Vice President of Refining in 2002.

A native of Chicago, Szydlowski earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from the General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in Flint, Mich. He obtained his MBA at Indiana University.

Colonial Pipeline operates the largest-volume refined liquid petroleum products pipeline in the world. Founded in 1962 and privately owned by a consortium of oil and petroleum companies, Colonial’s 5,500-plus miles of underground interstate pipeline transports gasoline, kerosene, home heating oil, diesel and national defense fuels from refineries along the Gulf Coast to markets throughout the South and East Coast.
