After Nearly One year of Construction, Bengal Pipeline Set to Begin Operations in May

HOUSTON – Shell Pipeline Company LP and Colonial Pipeline Company today announced a new, 75-mile, 24-inch refined products pipeline from Garyville to East Feliciana Parish in Louisiana, which will begin operating in mid-May after nearly one year of construction.

The Bengal Pipeline is a joint venture of Shell Pipeline Company LP and Colonial Pipeline Company. Shell Pipeline Company is a part owner of Colonial Pipeline Company.

Construction of the Bengal Pipeline is nearly complete. It connects an existing 19-mile, 24-inch Shell pipeline, which runs from Norco refineries to Garyville, to a Colonial Pipeline system located north of Baton Rouge for distribution to consumers in Southeastern, Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states.

Included in the joint venture are the existing Norco to Garyville 24-inch pipeline, a separate 16-inch refined products pipeline that runs from Covent to Baton Rouge, and two combined petroleum distribution terminals located north of Baton Rouge. The new 24-inch pipeline will transport more than 250,000 barrels per day of refined petroleum products from Norco area refineries to Colonial's system.

The Bengal Pipeline project represents a $100 million investment in Louisiana, including construction employment and purchases from local vendors and suppliers. Bengal Pipeline also will help sustain existing refineries in Louisiana by maintaining jobs and providing opportunities for growth.
