Commercials will air throughout the day beginning at 6 a.m. with an additional airing in the evening. Where the Spanish speaking population is predominately Mexican, typically the leading stations play Regional Mexican” music and those are the primary stations used in the markets covering that description (mainly in the south and west). On the east coast and in Florida the leading stations tend to play Tropical” and these stations were employed in those markets. In all cases the leading station(s) among those most likely to be excavators and/or be working outdoors were used.
The above list covers well over two-thirds of the country’s Spanish speaking population. In addition, in those markets where Spanish speakers are too few or not concentrated enough for there to be a local Univision television affiliate, they can still gain access via cable and most of those feeds are from New York in the east and Los Angeles in the west. As a result, geographic coverage far exceeds the specific markets listed.
As you know, 811 is the federally-mandated national Call Before You Dig” number. It was created to help protect unintentional hits to underground utilities while working on digging projects. People often make risky assumptions about whether or not they need to get their utility lines marked due to concerns about project delays, costs and misunderstandings about the risks and hazards. These assumptions can be life-threatening.
On 811 Day and every day, help spread the word: Every digging job requires a call to 811.
