Colonial Pipeline Holds Emergency Preparedness Drill In Athens, Ga, October 28 – 29

ATHENS, Ga.
 — Colonial Pipeline Co.‘s vision for Emergency Preparedness is to be fully trained and capable to protect the public, environment and community assets in an emergency situation. A major part of the emergency preparedness program is to maintain excellent relationships with local first responders and government agencies that would assist the company in an emergency situation. The company put itself to the test on October 28 – 29, with an unannounced drill simulation in Athens, Georgia.

Over 150 representatives from PHMSA, USEPA Region IV, Georgia DNR/EPD, Athens-Clarke County, Oconee County, the American Red Cross, the University of Georgia, Colonial Pipeline, and our support contractors converged at the exercise Command Post at the University of Georgia Hotel & Conference Center. An additional 50 responders participated at two boom deployment sites on the Oconee River where our OSRO installed over 4,000 feet of containment boom as part of the drill exercise.

These exercises are designed to build important relationships within the response community and supporting agencies, to practice our response procedures and plans, and to build on what we have learned from the exercise. Emergency preparedness is a major initiative of Colonial Pipeline’s safety promise to operate a safe pipeline that protects the public and the environment.
