Colonial Partnership With Greensboro FD Continues To Benefit Community

ASHEBORO, N.C. — On February 24, a fire broke out at a tire recycling facility in Asheboro, NC, when an outdoor shredder caught fire, igniting large piles of rubber nearby. Firefighting crews from the local area, battling the huge tire fire, called for supplies of fire foam from the Greensboro Fire Department some 30 miles away. It was foam supplied by Colonial Pipeline.

This is the second time that Colonial has played a role in providing fire foam to a local community outside of a county in which our pipeline or facilities are located. In fact, Colonial foam was also used in the past to support a large barge fire outside of the Bahamas.

How does that help our pipeline, you ask? Sometimes you have to think broadly about what kind of a company you want to be…

A few years ago, Colonial and Greensboro developed a memorandum of agreement which allows the Greensboro Fire Department to use foam purchased by the company wherever it is needed in support of public safety. The foam is later replenished by the user, ready for the next emergency.

Greensboro is Colonial’s largest tank farm. We rely heavily on the local fire department to protect our facility in the event of a fire or hazard. Sharing our foam supply with our North Carolina neighbors is just one way we honor our partnership with the Greensboro Fire Department and help keep communities – regardless of their location – a little safer.
