Practice makes preparedness! Each year, our teams participate in more than two dozen emergency response exercises across our 5,500-mile system, all carefully coordinated by our Crisis Management & Response team.

At Tier 1 and 2 exercises, like those that recently took place in Baytown, Texas, and Winston-Salem, N.C., field staff who are new to emergency response get their first taste of the National Incident Management System, while our more experienced personnel sharpen skills and mentor.

We train all districts and operational areas using the same approach, using the same roles, and speaking a common language to ensure a consistent response across the company. It allows bench strength and leads to exceptional response during real-life events.
