ALPHARETTA, Ga. (Feb. 7, 2013) – Two expansion projects under way at Colonial Pipeline are on schedule to supply an additional 100,000 barrels of daily capacity to Colonial’s overall system by the second quarter of 2013, the company said today.

The first project will add approximately 100,000 barrels of capacity to Colonial’s main gasoline pipeline (Line 01), which originates in Houston and terminates at Greensboro, N.C.

The second project adds 60,000 barrels of daily capacity to the Greensboro-to-Linden, N.J., mainline (Line 03), which is capable of carrying gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, heating oil and other refined petroleum products transported by Colonial. The large majority of the Line 03 capacity expansion is being phased in by mid-February 2013.

Progress has been steady and we’re looking forward to providing this additional capacity soon,” said Colonial CEO Tim Felt. Both of these projects are needed by our customers to improve their service to consumers across the South and East Coast.”

The expansion projects are the third and fourth pieces of an expansion program that began in 2011. A 100,000 barrels-per-day (BPD) expansion of Line 3’s capacity was completed that year, and a 75,000 BPD capacity expansion for Colonial’s Houston-to-Greensboro distillate mainline (Line 02) was completed in mid-2012.

The capacity expansions are being accomplished primarily by improvements to the pumps and motors Colonial uses to operate its 5,500-mile pipeline system. When these expansions are complete, Colonial’s capacity will increase to approximately 2.4 million barrels per day.

Colonial connects Gulf Coast refineries with markets across the South and Eastern United States, safely transporting gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, home heating oil, U.S. military fuels and other refined petroleum products. For more information, visit www.colpipe.com
