Colonial Pipeline Announces Expansion Of Service To Knoxville, Chattanooga

ATLANTA, Ga. — Colonial Pipeline today announced an expansion of its delivery system to Knoxville and Chattanooga, Tenn. The expansion will increase the region’s fuel supplies by 10 to 15 percent by the fourth quarter of 2002.

The improved service – which amounts to 630,000 gallons per day — is prompted by the growth of this market that includes East Tennessee, southeast Kentucky and western North Carolina.

We’ve been impressed by the region’s strong economic and population growth and by an accompanying increase in demand for petroleum products,” said Dave Lemmon, Colonial’s president and CEO. This service improvement will help supply the region’s needs for the future.”

As the demand in Knoxville grows beyond this increase in service, we have the ability to further expand our delivery system. We are committed to meet the product needs of this growing market area by delivering these vital fuels in a safe and environmentally sound manner.”

This expansion of service complements previously announced plans to increase service to North Alabama and Middle Tennessee.

The Knoxville upgrade will be accomplished by installing larger pumps in Atlanta, where the Knoxville line originates, and at a booster station in Rome, Ga.

Colonial Pipeline, a common carrier pipeline based in Atlanta, Ga., daily delivers 93 million gallons of liquid petroleum products. The pipeline originates in Houston and terminates at the New York harbor.

Colonial is committed to safe operations that protect the safety of the public, Colonial employees and the environment. For 2000 and 2001, Colonial won the American Petroleum Institute’s Most Distinguished” award for the nation’s pipeline that has performed best in protecting safety and the environment.
