During October Campaign of community engagement, Colonial employees raise $120,000, give 300 volunteer hours

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Colonial Pipeline Co. donated $120,000 to the United Way on Saturday, November 1. The donation culminated a month-long campaign in October in which Colonial employees engaged with their communities by donating funds and volunteer hours. The program partnered with the United Way of Greater Atlanta, which facilitated distributing funds to organizations in all 13 states the pipeline operates in. Colonial Pipeline is committed to supporting the communities we share our pipeline with.

Colonial’s campaign focused on supporting the USO this year, one of many organizations supported by the United Way. Colonial Pipeline has approximately 200 employees who have served in the military, making a drive to enhance the USO’s efforts to support soldiers, veterans and their families worldwide a meaningful partnership. The campaign was given a Top Gun movie theme and called, Ghost Rider, Time to Support our Heroes”.

Employees had the option to donate to the USO, United Way or any of the numerous worthy non-profit organizations supported by the United Way in their area from Houston to New York, where Colonial’s employees live and work. The United Way of Greater Atlanta provided the support and resources to distribute funds to designated organizations in all 13 states for employees. The United Way provided the resources and support to make this possible.

We have concluded our United Way campaign for 2014, and it has been the most successful in the past 6 years (or more!),” said Colonial Pipeline President & CEO Tim Felt. I would like to thank everyone who volunteered time in various activities to support United Way agencies, and in supporting the fundraising activities within Colonial. We are fortunate at Colonial with good jobs, good owners, an important and strong business, and great employees who help make us so successful. I am very proud of the response we collectively made to the United Way causes. I especially want to thank Beth Anderson and everyone else who served on the campaign committee to make this our most successful campaign. A lot of people will benefit from the generosity of the people of Colonial Pipeline!”

To support the USO even further, Colonial Pipeline employees assembled over 2,500 USO Care Packages at various offices and facilities throughout the company. The care packages will be distributed to soldiers abroad by the USO.

In addition to donating funds, Colonial Pipeline employees engaged with their communities by compiling over 300 volunteer hours during the month of October. Highlights of the volunteer efforts included:

  • Hands on Atlanta: Atlanta area employees gave the EnAble, Inc. facility a landscaping makeover and cleansing to assist its efforts to support adults with disabilities on October 11.
  • Operation Down Under: Mississippi area employees collected undergarments and pajamas for homeless veterans, an often overlooked need for struggling veterans. The collected garments were presented to the Mississippi VA.
  • Circle Center Adult Day Services: The Virginia team participated in a United Way Senior Center Support day on October 27 to enhance the facility for its residents.
  • Habitat for Humanity: New Jersey area employees, offering their expert handyman skills, participated in a home rehab project in Mount Jolly, New Jersey.
  • ABBA House Ministries: The Technical Services team in Atlanta used its skills to install and connect a water line to the facility, rip out old carpet and paint the lobby.

Each year Colonial Pipeline partners with the United Way to develop a charity campaign in October. The campaign encourages employees to engage and support worthy charities striving to improve our communities. This year’s campaign saw a 20% increase in fundraising and 17% increase in employee participation from last year. Fundraising events including a charity golf tournament, silent auction, live online auction and food truck event contributed to the fundraising success.
