Colonial Pipeline Donates $79,000 To Sykesville, Md Freedom District Fire Department

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (August 26, 2014) – Colonial Pipeline Co. has donated $79,000 to the Sykesville, Md., Freedom Fire Department for the purchase of 7,000 feet of 5‑inch fire hose as well as adapters and appliances associated with the equipment. The new equipment will support the community as well as emergency response at Colonial’s Dorsey Junction in Woodbine, Md.

The donated equipment ties into the Dorsey facility’s fire suppression system modifications project, which is scheduled to be completed by early 2015. It is part of Colonial’s Task Force 819 program, which was established to improve tank fire process and response plans, perform site assessments, implement tank farm facility modifications, and establish fire response resources.

The program works with local first responders to ensure they have the resources needed to respond to an event, and protect neighboring residences and communities.

In addition to the donation, Colonial sponsored two Sykesville firefighters to attend the Williams Fire & Hazard Industrial Fire school in Beaumont, Texas, to receive training last May. The training was a week-long classroom and field exercise to instruct firefighters on how to prepare and respond to a large scale industrial fire.

Also included in the project’s scope is to construct a regional fire suppression warehouse with foam totes, foam gun monitor, and miscellaneous equipment to suppress a fire at Dorsey or mobilize to another regional facility. At the conclusion of the project, Colonial will host onsite training and drilling of the new equipment/system with local first responders.
