Colonial Pipeline Holds Emergency Response Training



ATLANTA, Ga.
– Colonial Pipeline Co. held emergency response training on June 16 – 18 at the Atlanta Marriot Buckhead Hotel. The training included over 200 Colonial employees. The purpose of the training was to improve Colonial’s ability to respond to an emergency.

The spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Peter Knudson, addressed the group and explained how his agency works with pipeline operators and investigates pipeline incidents. The employees also got an overview on the Incident Command System (ICS) that it would implement to respond to an emergency. 

Also included in the training were breakout sessions to give employees specific training in their functional areas. The functional areas included:

  • Incident Commander (IC)
  • Public Information Officer (PIO)
  • Staging Area Manager (STAM)
  • Planning Section Chief (PSC)
  • Documentation Unit (DOC)
  • Resources Unit (RES)
  • Logistics Section (LOG)
  • Finance Section (FIN)
