ATLANTA, Ga. (December 6, 2011 12:30 p.m., EST) – Colonial Pipeline continues its response to an early morning release of diesel fuel from a pump station located at Oxford, Ala. Initial estimates were that approximately 10 barrels, or 420 gallons, were released, although that volume could be revised as we more fully investigate and respond to the event.

Colonial promptly shut down the diesel fuel line and reduced pressure on its nearby gasoline mainline while crews responded. After extensive safety evaluations, Colonial has restarted its gasoline line, effective 11:00 a.m. EST. The diesel fuel line was also restarted at a reduced rate, bypassing the Oxford Station.

Repairs at the Oxford Station and clean-up of released product are ongoing. Friendship Road remains closed to public traffic, pending completion of the clean-up activities. No injuries have been reported.

Colonial has established a community assistance number, (800) 733‑6175, for residents with concerns or for those who are interested in more information.

Media interested in more information may contact Sam Whitehead at (678)762‑2333 or Steve Baker at (404) 558‑0678.
